Reconciliation
Reconciliation is a Sacrament of Healing. Another name we have for reconciliation is Penance, or Confession. Reconciliation is usually offered everyday at any local parish, so you are welcome to confess your sins any day of the week. In reconciliation, one has a Examination of Conscience, prays the Act of Contrition, and then confesses to the minister of Reconciliation, a priest or a bishop. Any Catholic can receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Sacrament provide spiritual guidance. We should receive the sacrament at least once a year however, we are encouraged to receive it as often as necessary.
The Effect of the Sacrament is forgiveness of our sins. With our healing, we are reunified with Jesus and others. It cleanses our conscience and restores our Grace!
In Reconciliation, the priest becomes Christ to us and has the ability to forgive our wrongdoings. After you finish telling the priest your sins, the priest usually instructs you to either say a few prayers or to do a good deed for someone you may have hurt with your sin. Venial sins are forgiven after we receive the Eucharist but We should go to confession if we have the burden of a Mortal Sin on our souls.
The Form of the Sacrament: Before the your confession ends, the bishop/priest will say, "God, the Father of mercies, through the Death and Resurrection of his Son has reconciled the world to himself and sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness; through the ministry of the Church may God give you pardon and peace, and I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."
The Matter of the Sacrament: Sins, contrition and words of absolution.
