About Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation is a Sacrament of Initiation. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, we receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These gifts are Wisdom, Understanding, Piety, Counsel, Knowledge, Fear of the Lord, and Fortitude. Just as Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to His apostles to give them the gifts that they needed to spread the Gospel message, they too conferred the sacrament on others. The Ordinary Minister of Confirmation is a Bishop. However, a priest may be the minister of Confirmation with special permission. At the Easter Vigil, the priest is usually the minister of Confirmation.
Any baptized(but un -Confirmed) Catholic can receive the Sacrament. They must need completion of Baptismal Grace or they can be entering Catholicism from other Christian faiths. We can receive Confirmation only once.
The Effect of the Sacrament is the sign of consecration and an indelible mark imprinted on our soul. It completes our baptismal Grace in which we receive the full outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
The form of the Sacrament: The minister says, "Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit!" The Matter is Holy Chrism (or oil) and the laying on of hands by the minister.
We spend may months preparing to receive Confirmation by concentrating on doing spiritual and corporal acts of Mercy We may fill out spiritual journals every Sunday at Mass. We may also be asked to do community service. We become fully initiated members of the Church with this Sacrament.
